The motor turns with Allen wrench but every time I reset it, it "thumps" 3 times and stalls. No "Drive Error" notice, just "Pump Stalled". The sticker on the side of the pump says SP3200DR and date is 03/11/2015.

WebSep 29, 2015 · Confirm that the air is bled in your filter. The Ecostar will be in self-prime mode a long time iffen there is air in the filter (normally, prime-mode is 3 minutes). I'm going from 2600 watts down to 200. Pump speed is user-selected from 600 up to 3400 or so. I understand the knocks these units get (air in the sump, hard to configure, wrong color). I'm currently waiting to hear back from Hayward to see if they can sell me a tristar at a discounted price, but in the meantime I'm looking at alternatives.

I reached out to Hayward but didn't get any support so I decided to replace the control module. The pump worked again for a few minutes before shutting down and giving me the "drive error, pump has stalled" again.

I am not willing to purchase a new drive unit given the poor reliability and high cost. I am considering controlling the pump motor with a VFD controller, Hitachi has a nice one for around $200 (NES1-015SB).
