All 115 local education agencies (LEAs) — and currently more than 80% of the state’s charter schools — are connected to NCREN. Interconnecting all public schools is an important outcome of the North Carolina School Connectivity Initiative (SCI). WebMCNC owns and manages nearly a 4,500-mile fiber optic infrastructure backbone, the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN), supports over 850 community anchor institutions (CAIs) in all 100 counties.
