Rhizamoeba
TīmeklisRhizamoeba (rye-sa-me-ba), a free-living naked amoeba which may adopt a variety of body forms from limax (slug-like) to more or less discoidal, to an extended fan-shape as here. Margins of the cell give rise to irregular thin pseudopodia. Nuclei round with central nucleolus. The tuft of fine filaments is the uroid. Phase contrast. TīmeklisRhizamoeba species are very sensitive for light. This one started to retract its pseudopodia immediately when it came into the light path of the microscope. Nuclei, 15 µm and 11 µm, each with two peripheral nucleoli. The same cell as above after two weeks in a moisture chamber. It is also retracting its pseudopodia.

TīmeklisThe genus Rhizamoeba is evidently polyphyletic in all phylogenetic trees; we suggest retaining the generic name Rhizamoeba for the group unifying R. saxonica, R.matisi n. sp. and R. polyura, the latter remains the type species of the genus Rhizamoeba. Based on molecular and morphological evidence we move all remaining Rhizamoeba … TīmeklisGenus Rhizamoeba Page, 1972. Rhizamoeba sp. (fig. 1) The species belongs to the branched morphotype. Slowly moving amoeba with flattened cell body. Under bright lighting it elongates and forms numerous cytoplasmic branches. Small but discernible contractile vacuoles are present. No crystals were observed in the cellular cytoplasm.
